This post serves as a follow up oh! sorry standalone question to the topic "what is on-page SEO at this link: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login"

I am not used to using wordpress, but now,am planning to start a blog.My fear now is what do these so called SPAMMERS want with one's wordpress site?

Answers would be appreciated.

Most of these spam comments are not done by humans but by automated programs referred to as spambots. Only a relatively small percentage are done by actual humans:

The most common reasons are:
1. To build up backlinks to an (oftentimes) harmful or illegal website
2. To spread links of attack websites that can put a dangerous program like a virus, worm or trojan  on people's computers when visited. Such viruses usually to take over the infected system and use it as a base to launch further attacks and spread itself even more and in many cases to steal your sensitive information like passwords and credit card info
3. People trying to promote something (like that of the On Page SEO example you gave)

There are also people who create spambot programs that spam blogs just for fun  :o

How to Protect Your Blog
For wordpress, use Akismet plugin and always keep it updated
Blogspot has its own spam in-built control that is set as default so you don't really need to do anything

How to Protect Yourself
1. Don't click on the links in the comments unless you are sure that its not a spam comment
2. Use a secure browser and always keep it updated. I recommend Firefox or Google Chrome because they normally warn you about many dangerous links
3. Use a very good antivirus. I recommend Avast, there is a free version you can download. Just search for Avast download. Avast is very good at detecting harmful websites and updates automatically whenever you are online.
Leave it for God, don't worry yourself. Leave it for God, don't cry no more.

From my experience of using Wordpress, it will be suicidal not to be adequately protected from SPAMS! I get loads everyday on my my blog sites, but THANKFULLY Akismet blocks them so they dont cause any harm, and sends them straight to Spam!

From our MOB Course material, this is among the very first plugin that was introduced for us to install, and a major one at that! I just installed a subdomain and Akismet was automiatically installed by wordpress as one of the plugins, along with the default Hello World plugin. However, i was told i need to activate it.

So, along with what Tony said, take SPAM seriously else.....

Typo error - i meant Hello Dolly.

By default, once you have installed wordpress, an article titled Hello World is shown, which you can delete and start posting yours.

Pls,i need forum advice on this issue, recently i get hundreds of comment every day to moderate, most of the comment are slightly relevant to the post and they dont really look like a spam, but my major concern is that i installed Top 10 plugin, which will only display just few number of visitors in my daily popular post.

So where do all hundred of comment come from, since some are a beat relevant can they be spam or may be Top 10 plugin is not work properly. pls what do you all think.
Am already tired of moderating comments! >:( :( >:(

The hundreds of comments are most likely from automated comment spam bots. Even most of the ones that look slightly relevant are all spam but written to appear relevant without being exactly specific about the post. They were written that way to beat the spam filters.

Do you have Akismet plugin installed and activated on your blog? If not then try to install it.

Too much spam comments is not good for your site.

1. For number of visits, install statcounter stats and remove the Top 10 plugin if you feel its causing problems

2. To stop the spam, install Akismet

Please do that and lets have the results.
