Is this the world's first internet addict? Man treated after spending 18 hours a day using Google Glass specs

Unnamed man, 31, only removed the technology to sleep and wash – and became angry and irritable when kept apart from the high-tech gadget

One Glass too many: Scientists treated a man they believe was addicted to Google Glass specs
The world's first internet addict has been discovered, according to scientists.  Boffins have treated a man they believe had a disorder connected to overuse of Google Glass – the smart specs that allow wearers to access the net via the head-mounted gear.

The unnamed man – reportedly a 31-year-old US Navy serviceman – had been glued to the sought after technology for a whopping 18 hours every day – removing it only for naps and washing.
And the alleged web junkie complained of feeling angry and argumentative when he was wearing his surfing spectacles.

Perhaps most worrying, the man even revealed he had begun experiencing his dreams as though they were viewed through Google Glass.

Internet addiction is a disputed phenomenon among pyschiarists.

Dream world: The man scientists believe was addicted to Google Glass even started to dream he was wearing the technology. But the US Navy's Dr Andrew Doan, head of addictions and resilience research and co-author of a paper on the patient, told The Guardian: "People used to believe alcoholism wasn’t a problem – they blamed the person or the people around them.
"It’s just going to take a while for us to realise that this is real."

The patient had checked in for alcoholism treatment but doctors noted he repeatedly tapped his right temple with his index finger – an involuntary repetition of the motion to switch on Google Glass.
Dr Doan added: “There’s nothing inherently bad about Google Glass. It’s just that there is very little time between these rushes.
"So for an individual who’s looking to escape, for an individual who has underlying mental dysregulation, for people with a predisposition for addiction, technology provides a very convenient way to access these rushes.

“And the danger with wearable technology is that you’re allowed to be almost constantly in the closet, while appearing like you’re present in the moment.”
The navy patient was also suffering from mental problems, including depression, social anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder.

@ Priderock - I quite agree with you.  Addiction is a big problem that we should all be watched not to take better part of us.  Things should be done moderately.

Consequences of advancements in technology
Leave it for God, don't worry yourself. Leave it for God, don't cry no more.
