Website Design Fees/ Charges

Dear Mentors and Colleagues,

A friend  and ex-colleague wants me to help design his website. This i can now easily do after enrolling for this course and learning designing sites, of which by the help of you all, my mentors, and above all by the grace of God, i have 2 sites so far to my credit (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)

My question is, after paying for domain name and webhosting, what do you guys recommend i charge for my fees, that is synonymous and tantamount to industry standards out there, this being my first web design job?

Your helpful and constructive response from my well experienced colleagues who are into similar, and my mentors, will be highly appreciated.

Cheers!

I havn't done this before Zalmanar, but my guess is you charge base on the financial capability of the client. If the client is very bouyant, Zalmanar charge N150,000. If he is not, make it like N80,000, N50,000 depending on how you view your client. Goodluck bro.

Hi grace that's too expensive. @ zalma, I think charging for a website shouldn't depend on how buoyant your customer is. It should have a standard and should be affordable to all, so that no one feels cheated. From my experience and from offline adverts I have seen, creating a simple website cost blw 15k - 25k, complex websites can be higher. Web hosting is as low as 2500 per year. Online one can get cheaper website, I got my first website online ..... The domain name cost me $10 per year, the web hosting $10 per year too then I got a free tool online to design the site. Some online web masters charge $10 per month on websites,( they allow you make the choice of the domain name, they give you the tools to  build the website, and they host it for you and they charge you $10 per month for all this). Nigeria is different there are a lot of competition out their, I think you should calculate the cost of your website base on your time, effort and the standard of the website. Good luck I hope this helps

Hello Zalmanar, it gives me great joy to see you have design two great site; that means you are no longer a "pkonkious iniendo". With regards to what my fellow "Ogar mor gar" have said, i therefore want to draw my candid opinion from the "marpe" shared by other members of the house. Charging for designing a site ranges between #15,000 and #30,000 respectively. You can even charge less if your relationship with that person is cordial. But if you are designing a site that has to do with database, you can charge above #80k.
That site you said your colleague wanted you to redesign, you only need to restructure the look and feel of that sight, perhaps even change the themes; You have lesser work to do on that site bro, make sure you send our own cut of the money when the sight is completed. Incase you find yourself waundering in the state of quandari, don't just wallow within your bitmabitma, but pose it to the house and i bet you, it will be totally given immediate response. One Luv bro!

Dear Yomiprof,

Compliment of the season and more blessings for more vocabularies -  a professor must be a professor; hence my dear Zalmanar should note that.

Sir, my question from the above quote is that what make the difference between Ordinary Website and Website with Database that will necessitate wide difference in charges between N30k to N80k.

Best regards,

Aare MacFally
