Dear All,

Pls carefully go through the mail below for your personal guide.
As the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil, we would like to remind everyone of us the importance and necessity to be more vigilant at periods such as this.

With the recent spate of explosions in some parts of the country, the history of screening of sports events been targeted by Boko Haram in the past and the known intent BH have to launch attacks, we advise that extra precautions are taken by those who may be visiting the open and public venues to watch the World Cup games.  Whist at these venues, you will do well to look out for pointers such as

1.       Low quality vehicles parked in the midst of other high quality vehicle
2.       Vehicles apparently abandoned at venues with wires visible from their low lying boot/trunk
3.       Abandoned bags, containers, carriers carelessly left lying around at venues
4.       Persons/individuals wearing bulky clothing’s not suited for the weather
5.       Persons/individuals carrying back packs, wearing rucksacks and looking nervous
6.       Small packages (box like) left on the floors or unattended to on tables of seats

We should be reminded that during the last World Cup lives were lost when a simple sports bag containing an improvised explosive device left on the dance floor of a club detonated killing 74 people in Uganda. In Nigeria, we have had instances where bars and other such public places have been attacked with explosives killing scores of guests in the process.

As we wish the Super Eagles the very best of performance and result at the World Cup, let us remain safe being security conscious at all times.

Kind regards,

Aare MacFally

Blast rocks World Cup fans
Several believed dead in Nigeria

POSTED: Wednesday, June 18, 2014, 12:16 AM

DAMATURU, Nigeria - A suicide bomber detonated a tricycle taxi packed with explosives at an outdoor World Cup viewing center in a northeast Nigerian city last night, and witnesses said several people were killed.

Hospital workers said the death toll likely will rise with 15 people critically wounded and casualties still coming in to the main hospital at Damaturu, capital of Yobe state.

Police Assistant Superintendent Nathan Cheghan confirmed the explosion but said rescue workers were being careful for fear of secondary explosions. Islamic extremists of the Boko Haram group frequently time secondary explosions to kill people who rush to the scene of a bomb blast.

Cheghan said he had no casualty figures.

There was no immediate claim for the blast that witnesses were blaming on Boko Haram fighters who have targeted soccer viewing centers and sports bars in the past. Two explosions in recent weeks killed at least 40 people in two northern cities.
Witnesses said the tricycle taxi was driven into the outdoor area soon after the Brazil-Mexico match started last night.

As warned earlier, we should all be vigilant and be prayerful not to become a victim of this madness called Boko-Haram.....
